ABSTRACT

In this study eighteen children with diplegic cerebral palsy (CP) were evaluated. Eleven of these children had spastic diplegia and athetosis. The age group was from seven to eleven years old. The tests applied were stereognosy, two points discrimination (TPD), touch location as described by YEKUTIEL, JARIWALA, STRETCH (1994), and the results of twenty normal children of the same ages. The results obtained were statistically treated by Wilcoxon test and afterwards Mann Whitney test for the comparative analysis of the number of positive responses and time response required for ech group in the Right and Left hand evaluation (Alpha= 0,05).For the studied variable were calculated the medium values, the standard deviation and the medians. The minimum and maximum were presented. The results obtained showed that 89 percent presented a lack of sensibility in 28 percent in the stereognosy evaluation.A great difficult in the tests was the research for the touch location. After this study, we came to the conclusion that the sensitive evaluation is essencial in the rehabilitation process and in the manual perfomance of CP patient
